PASSPORT
For holders of a special passport for Indonesian citizens (WNI), whether renewing or applying for a new passport, each individual is required to visit the Immigration Office for biometric data collection before the new passport is issued. Indonesian passports are available in two versions :
1. Regular Passport
A regular passport is a traditional travel document that serves as the official identity of the holder when traveling abroad. This passport contains pages for visa stamps and entry/exit stamps from various countries. Typically, a regular passport is valid for 5 (five) years.
2. E-passport
An e-passport, or electronic passport, is a more advanced version of the regular passport. The e-passport is equipped with an electronic chip that stores the passport holder’s biometric data, such as fingerprints and a digital photograph. This chip enhances the security of the document and minimizes the risk of forgery. Additionally, some countries offer expedited entry, such as fast-track lanes at airports, for e-passport holders. Like regular passports, e-passports also have a validity of 5 (five) years. Both types of passports serve the same function as travel documents, but the e-passport offers additional security and convenience for the holder.
